2012 Water Trials
Our Water trial chair, Janice Butler, for the past three years has moved out of state. We owe her a big thank you for the well run and lots of fun water trials. Sarah Leatherman was asked by the Board to fill in for Janice and has graciously agreed- thanks Sarah!
For everyone who is interested in participating in this year’s water trial, here is some important information.
The permits to train at Chatfield Reservoir will be available soon. The gravel pond will be open on May 1st. Only COPWDC members with a signed permit may train at the Chatfield gravel pond. To expedite the permit process, Sarah and I will be at the gravel pond on April 22 from 3-5 PM to administer permits and go through the process. If you can’t make the 22nd- no worries. Just send in or email your application (click here for the application) and the approved permit will be sent back to you. Please send it to Pat Greer at the address below.
As a reminder the Club MUST have a record of all times you are training at Chatfield. Either call or email Sarah when you are going out to Chatfield to practice.
Here are the dates for this year’s water trials
- Trial Dates- August 4 and 5th
- Practice date August 3 at noon.
- Trial set up Begins at 4:00 on August 3
Other dates
- Premiums will be available on May 26 and will close on July 7.

Volunteers needed:
- Sarah and Pat would like to mentor new trial secretary and water trial chair this year to ensure a smooth handoff of the trial duties in 2013. Neither of us will be available in 2013 for these positions and we would like to facilitate a smooth transition. Contact either of us for details.
- We will need volunteers to set up the site, help with the actual water trial and handle the raffle to support the PWD Foundation, and make little welcome bags for dogs entered.
- Other volunteers??? We can always use help!

This collection series of 10 Seafarer Magazines, published from 1992 to 1997, is available for order on the COPWDC website. These magazines were published by Bev Rafferty of Pinehaven Kennels. Bev is the breeder of a distinctive line of PWDs. Of the many prominent Pinehaven dogs, MBISS Int’l/Port/Am CH Pinehaven’s On the Town ‘Dillon’ won the first National Specialty in 1992 and again in 1996 as a Veteran. These magazines are filled with high quality photos and wonderful articles about our breed. It is a trip down memory lane for PWD ‘old timers’ and those newer to our breed will learn about important dogs in our breed’s history and see photos of PWDs that are in their own dog’s pedigree. The Seafarers are out of print and can be considered collector’s items. You will also be able to order the Seafarer Grooming Guide authored by Jack Girton. Jack was the co-owner, handler and groomer of many Pinehaven well-known conformation dogs and many other top PWDs. His Grooming Guide provides instructions for grooming wavies and curlies for the show ring, and how to groom a wonderful everyday pet clip on your PWD. It is filled with pictures, lists types of grooming supplies, and also covers the basics like nails and ears
The Order Form for both of these out of print must haves will be available using our order form. Order Form
